Advisors- Every student has an academic advisor throughout their college career to help guide them through and plan their course schedule, major, or minor.
Boar's Head- the annual Christmas pageant that turns the chapel into a medieval feast hall and the Concordia community into elegant lords and ladies.
Brother/Sister Dorms-A group of 3 or 4 dorms that participate in camps and spiritual life activities together.
Business Club- Open to all students, offering many opportunities for professional development and fellowship.
C.A.- The large Central Area of each dorm, where students gather around the fireplace on chilly winter evenings.
Cardinals- The nickname for Concordia's athletic teams. Also "Cards" .
Cardinals for Christ- Evangelism through athletics is the goal of the student involved in this group.
IM's- Teams from each dorm compete in sports such as basketball, ulitmate frisbee, volleyball, and flag football.
The Manor- The legacy left behind by Harry Earhart that now serves as the Administration building.
Publications- Students interested in journalism may write for the school newspaper (The VOX) or help put together the annual anthology of creative writing published as part of the Creative Writing Awards.
Quad - A cluster of four dorms.
R.A.- Resident Advisors help organize dorm life and keep students in touch with events on campus.
S.A.C.- The Student Activity Committee organizes many fun events throughout the year. Annual events include a carnival, Homecoming, Christmas dance, movie nights, and the Spring Formal Dance.
S.L.R.- Spiritual Life Representatives lead and promote spiritual activity in the dorm.
Student Senate- The President, Vice President, and the Senate Executive Board are elected by the student body. Every dorm is represented by a senator.
The Cardinal's Nest- One of Concordia's gathering spots in the new student center, including a snack bar, and a big screen T.V. with HD.
The Waterfront- Concordia's backyard borders the Huron River, making it a perfect environment for hiking, canoeing (at Gallup Park), studying, or just relaxing!
Spiritual Life
Devos- Short for devotions, led by students in the dorms 2 evenings a week.
Fools for Christ- Concordia's student mime and clowning troupe.
Spirit Break- Every morning, students and faculty have the opportunity to worship together.
Spiritual Life Committee- Selected student leaders who assist the campus pastor in promoting and providing spiritual life activities on and off campus.
Whitehall Ministry- Off Campus Ministries members bring hope and cheer to area nursing homes.
Academics
ADP- The Accelerated Degree Program offers undergraduate majors designed for the working adult.
ADP-GE- Accelerated Degree Program - General Education courses are offered to meet the general education requirements and interests of working adults.
Program is the term used to describe the course and requirement for a specific professional preparation including major/minor requirements.
Majors are blocks of courses in an academic subject or field of several related subjects. Majors require a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit , but majors may require more than 30 credits.
Minors are similar to majors but require a minimum of 20 credits. Minors, however, may require more than 20 credits.
Emphases are particular sets of requirements within a major that differentiates areas of study in that major. Typically this takes the form of a specific set of courses that the students is required to take within the major in order to complete the given emphasis. It does not require credits over and above the number required by the major itself.
Concentrations are particular sets of requirements accompanying and in addition to the major, that deepen and/or broaden the learning outcomes of the major. Concentrations require a minimum of nine credits additional to the associated major.
The Arts
Art Exhibits- Artists from around the world as well as student works are featured in the art gallery through out the year.
The Black Box- The theater in the Kreft Center that is host to a number of musicals, dramatic performances, dances, and dinners.
Band and Choir Tour- The Concordia Wind Ensemble and Choir alternate going on tour during Spring Break every year, and travel as far as Washington D.C., Texas, Florida, and Colorado.
Music- Concordia Choir, Wind Ensemble, Chorale, Jazz Band, Brass Quintet, Pep Band, and Hand Bells are open to students. College credit is granted for participation. Individual lessons can be arranged with one of our faculty.
