Interests: I love music, and I’ve been finding out recently that I really love teaching too. I never really had a chance before, but now that I’ve had a chance to tutor students for a couple semesters and I have my own trumpet students, I’ve been finding out that I really enjoy passing on what I know to others. I can be really passionate about sharing knowledge with people. It’s really fun.
Leadership roles on campus: Last year, Garret, Josh, and I led the chapel music, because we didn’t have a faculty music leader then. I’m section leader for the trumpets in the band. I’m often the guy that’s called on to lead Arborsong when Professor Altevogt isn’t there. I led the pep band at CIT this year. I also have been a tutor for a few classes before. I was an SLR for two years.
Activities: Anymore, band, choir and Arborsong. Recently, especially this year, with me almost getting done, I’ve dropped a lot of things just to empty my schedule a bit just because I was so busy. I still love singing and playing my trumpet. I still enjoy doing New Crew. I used to be involved in the jazz band, but now I just work with the wind ensemble.
Why do you love Concordia? When I came here as a senior in high school, I came for an overnight and stayed with the RA of Miriam dorm, and I just had a great time. I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t come with any friends from high school, but everyone here was just really friendly and really fun. I especially love the atmosphere. I love the opportunity to meet everyone. It’s not big enough that we have a million people on this campus, but you can literally meet pretty much everyone on the campus, especially if you’re involved in extracurricular activities. You know the president by name. You can walk into his office if you like. That’s what I love about Concordia: the friendliness of the students and faculty. They just care about the students.
How has the Presidential Scholarship benefited you? I don’t know how much of a deciding factor it was for me to come to Concordia. I think it was just the fact that the school is what it is. But as far as how much it’s benefited me, I don’t have any loans, which is just a gift from God.
