Fred was born in Kirchheim-Teck, Germany and immigrated to the United Stated with his parents and two brothers in 1952. He grew up in Elyria, Ohio where he completed his elementary school education at St. John Lutheran School. Subsequently he graduated from Cleveland Lutheran High School West in 1966.After graduation from Lutheran West he completed his associate degree in 1968 from Concordia Lutheran Junior College in Ann Arbor, MI. As was the case with many of his classmates, he transferred to Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL where he majored in secondary mathematics education.
In 1970 Boos completed his baccalaureate degree and accepted a call to serve as mathematics teacher at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, New York (Queens). While at MLHS he served as soccer coach (5 years), basketball coach (2 years) and served on numerous committees as well as being the chair of the faculty during his last years at the high school. During this period of time he completed the Master of Science in Teaching degree from Fordham University in 1975.
Boos subsequently accepted a call to serve as a member of the mathematics faculty of Concordia College in Bronxville, New York. During his five years of service in New York he also served as soccer coach (3 years), registrar (1 year), and was an active member of various college policy committees.
After five years of service in Bronxville he accepted a call to serve on the faculty of Concordia College (now Concordia University) in River Forest, Illinois. He continues as a member of the faculty today. In 1986 he completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Columbia University in New York.
While at Concordia Dr. Boos has served in the following capacities: Chair, Department of Mathematics, Coordinator of Secondary Education, Coordinator of the Mathematics/Computer Science master¹s degree program, and member of most of the school¹s policy committees. In 2000 Dr. Boos was appointed as the Chief Academic Officer of the university. He continues to serve in this capacity. During the period August 2003 through November 2004 he also served as Acting President.
During his years of ministry he has served on committees, boards and as chair of the following congregations: St. Peter Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, New York; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon, New York; and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Melrose Park, Illinois. Fred is married to Sharon, a fellow educator, and has two children, Brian and Heidi and one grandchild, Nikolaus. He and Sharon reside in Oak Park, IL.
