“BLUE CHICAGO; NIGHT VISIONS FROM A BOAT:” PAINTINGS BY PALA TOWNSEND AT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY’S KREFT CENTER GALLERY
ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 20, 2006– Celebrated artist, Pala Townsend, will be displaying numerous paintings at the Kreft Center Gallery from Feb. 20th though April 2nd. The exhibition will feature her recent series, “Blue Chicago; Night Visions from a Boat” a collection of paintings portraying the emotional and visual essence of the Chicago waterfront. The gallery will have an opening reception and talk with Pala Townsend on Thursday, March 2, from 7-9 p.m.
In the past her work has commonly focused on nature themes such as the Rain Forest Park in Portland, Oregon, or the north branch of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. This exhibition however represents the first stop on an urban waterway journey to the Mississippi river and the south, a region she has been exploring for the past three years.
Pala Townsend has lived and worked as a painter in Chicago since 1984, and teaches at the Painting Department of the School of Art Institute. At present she is working on a City Art Commission for the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago.
The Kreft Center Gallery is open from 12-4 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and 1-5 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. There is no admission charge.
