RIVER RAISIN RAGTIME REVUE COMES TO CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY
ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 15, 2006– The River Raisin Ragtime Revue, a professional ragtime theater orchestra, is performing at Concordia’s Chapel of the Holy Trinity on Sunday Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. The 12 piece ensemble, founded by William and Laura Wyman Pemberton, puts on an engaging and entertaining show, mixing both narrative theater and music into a unique portrait of turn of the century America.
The aim of the program is to both entertain and educate through the presentation of significant American music. They especially highlight ragtime, a genre of music entirely unique to the United States. The group plays arrangements from a variety of composers while special emphasis is placed on African American composers who had to face considerable difficulty to write and publish their music.
The group hails from nearby Tecumseh, and recently released a new album, “The Red Black Book; Standard High Class Rags”
Tickets are for adults, for seniors, for students, and for children under 12. For more information please contact the box office at (734) 995-4612.
