SORGATZ HONORED WITH CHRISTUS PRIMUS AWARD
ANN ARBOR, Mich. April 28, 2006– Concordia University (CUAA) announced that James Sorgatz, an assistant to the president of the Mid-South District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod for Schools and Congregational Services and 1965 CUAA alumnus, will be awarded the prestigious Christus Primus award on May 6 in Ann Arbor during Concordia’s spring commencement.
Sorgatz is being recognized for a lifetime of service to the church and exemplifying in word and deed, the university motto, “That in all things Christ might have the preeminence,” (Colossians 1:18). He has served beyond his role as a churchman through his involvement with the Katrina Evacuation Relief Services, where he aids in the relocation of evacuees from the hurricane devastated areas to new homes, schools, and jobs in the Mid-South district. He has also been working with foundations and agencies to provide financial aid and resources to re-open schools damaged and closed by the hurricane. He has been instrumental in securing funding for payrolls for displaced staff from these devastated churches and schools.
