CONCORDIA RAISES MONEY TO HELP FEED HUNGRY FAMILIES
ANN ARBOR, Mich., September 6, 2006- Concordia University–Ann Arbor (CUAA) raised over 0 for SOS Community Services, through their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. The fundraiser is held ever spring and proceeds help SOS feed hungry families through their emergency food pantry.
For the sixth year running, Concordia students, faculty and staff, and children from local elementary schools and boy scout troops created ceramic bowls that were sold along with soup for a suggested minimum donation of . Studio artists at Baron Glassworks donated blown glass bowls for a silent auction. Purchasers kept the bowls as a reminder of the global fight to end hunger.
The Empty Bowls concept was created in 1990 by a Michigan high school art teacher and his students as a unique and creative way to raise funds for a food drive. Since then, Empty Bowls events have been held all over the world raising millions of dollars to fight hunger.
