56th ANNUAL CONCORDIA INVITATION TOURNAMENT COMING TO ANN ARBOR
ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 16, 2007- Concordia University–Ann Arbor’s (CUAA) men’s basketball team will defend their championship title as the women take on 11-time champions, Concordia University–Seward, when they host the 56th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT), Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.
CIT is the second longest running college basketball tournament in the country. It was created by Coach Eldon “Pete” Pederson of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in the fall of 1950. The inaugural tournament was held in St. Louis on March 1951. Women’s tournament basketball wasn’t introduced until 1965.
“We are looking forward to CIT, especially since it’s a chance to defend the title on our home floor,” stated Ben Limback, men’s basketball head coach. “CIT is a wonderful event that not only is exciting for the players, but for students, faculty and staff, families and fans as well.”
In addition to CUAA, this year’s tournament will include teams from Concordia University–Chicago, Concordia University–Nebraska, and Concordia University–Wisconsin. For additional information on the 56th annual CIT and its history go to www.cuaa.edu/cit.
