KREFT CENTER GALLERY PRESENTS STEINUNN THÓRARINSDÓTTIR: INNER LIGHT
ANN ARBOR, Mich., August 31, 2007-The Concordia University Kreft Center Gallery will host an exhibition of sculptures by Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir. The show runs September 4 through October 26, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 6, 7:00-9:00 p.m. The opening reception will include a lecture/presentation by Thórarinsdóttir at 7:30 p.m.
Icelandic sculptor Thórarinsdóttir has exhibited widely in Europe, Japan, Australia, and the United States. Thórarinsdóttir’s sculpture has always been figurative; through figuration she has explored the complexity of the human condition. The artist is also inspired by “the color, atmosphere, and content” of her native Iceland. She works in a variety of media – glass, iron, aluminum – and her figures exude “solitude and pathos but also strength and dignity,” according to Peter Osborne, Director of the Osborne Samuel Gallery, London.
The Kreft Center Gallery is located at 4090 Geddes Road on the campus of Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The reception and gallery are open to the public free of charge. For more information call the gallery at (734) 995-4612.
