FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONCORDIA’S SCHOOL OF EDUCATION EARNS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
ANN ARBOR, Mich., December 19, 2007 - Concordia University’s School of Education was granted a renewal of their national accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
In late fall, Concordia’s School of Education officially received the National Recognition for Excellence in Teacher Education certification. To award this certification, the NCATE must assess all the education programs offered at an institution to make certain that required standards are met in each program. Earning this certification ensures Concordia graduates can be placed anywhere in the United States and be received as a highly qualified teacher.
The NCATE certification follows last year’s “Exemplary” rating received from the Michigan Department of Education’s evaluation of Concordia’s School of Education.
Education professor, Dr. Kevin Brandon, is excited and pleased about the accreditation. He asserts, “We are thrilled about the recognition Concordia has received from the state and national levels. Our new language arts group major in elementary education has been held up as a model by the State of Michigan.” The major combines new content and skills, training teachers in English as a Second Language, the Michigan Literacy Profile and the use of the “Writer’s Craft” model for teaching writing. Dr. Brandon adds, “One of the greatest compliments we receive comes from the schools themselves. Many principals now actively seek out our graduates!”
