FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONCORDIA TO PLAY IN NATION’S 2ND LONGEST RUNNING TOURNAMENT
ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 14, 2008 – On January 25, Concordia University – Ann Arbor’s (CUAA) men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to Concordia University - Chicago to participate in the 57th Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT). The tournament features, in addition to CUAA, the Concordias of Chicago, Ill., Mequon, Wis., and Seward, Neb.
The CUAA men’s team enters the tournament as two-time defending champion. Ben Limback, head coach of the men’s team, described his team’s excitement, “The players have been talking about the CIT all season. It is a different game in a different environment. It’s a packed house. There are students, parents, presidents, faculty, and members of the local community all coming out to see these games.”
Given the history of the tournament and its fan support, Limback described the weekend as the highlight of the athletic calendar, “The bands are playing, the mascots are fighting, the fans are screaming, and the games go down to the wire. With so many people there, it’s just a wonderful atmosphere. It’s the way college basketball should be played.” Limback asserted, “What really makes it special is that there are four schools with the same name and the same purpose for being there, playing to the glory of God.”
The tournament’s first game, between the women’s teams of Ann Arbor and Mequon, tips off at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 25. Later that night, the Ann Arbor men square off against tournament host Chicago at 8:15 p.m.
