THREE CONCORDIA—ANN ARBOR ALUMNI RECEIVE NATIONAL AWARDS
ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 6, 2008 – Concordia University—Ann Arbor (CUAA) proudly announces that the Lutheran Education Association (LEA) recognized three CUAA graduates with 2008 LEA Educator Awards. Carol Koenig (AA ’72), Shelly Davis (BA ’90), and James Van Dellen (BA ‘91) were affirmed as exemplary educators by the LEA and a panel of peers. Each year, the LEA honors eight educators with national awards. Award recipients will be recognized at the 2008 LEA Convocation in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 24–26.
Carol Koenig, first-grade teacher and associate principal at Messiah Lutheran School in St. Charles, Missouri, is the 2008 LEA Distinguished Lutheran Early Childhood Teacher. Koenig earned an A.A. from CUAA, a B.A. in education from Concordia University—Chicago, and an M.A. in education from Lindenwood University. Previous honors include the Missouri Council for American Private Education (MOCAPE) Educator Achievement Award and the Emerson Electric Excellence in Education Award.
Shelly Davis, guidance counselor at Salt Lake Lutheran High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the 2008 LEA Distinguished Lutheran Secondary Educator. Davis earned a B.A. in education from CUAA and an M.A. in school counseling from the University of Phoenix, Salt Lake City.
James Van Dellen, eighth-grade teacher and vice principal at Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, was honored as 2008 LEA Distinguished Lutheran Elementary Teacher. Van Dellen earned a B.A. in education from CUAA and has completed the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) School Leadership Development (SLED) training.
