Concordia University Theatre Presents Jim Leonard’s “The Diviners”
ANN ARBOR, Mich., August 25, 2008 This fall, the Concordia University Theatre will present a production of “The Diviners” by Jim Leonard, Jr. The play runs October 16 19, 2008 at the Black Box Theatre in the Kreft Center for the Arts and is directed by David Kusch.
Set in rural Indiana during the dust bowl of the 1930s, when both water and faith are in short supply, “The Diviners” is the story of a disenchanted preacher and his friendship with a brain-damaged boy who has a special ability to divine water. The boy’s innocent wisdom meets the preacher’s weary cynicism and leads to discoveries for both. “These are good and simple people,” Leonard has said of his characters. “They have nothing but the best of intentions.” Good intentions are not enough, however, to prevent a tragedy.
Tickets for the performance are $10. The October 16 show offers two-for-one ticket pricing. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m., except the Sunday, October 19 show, which begins at 2:30 p.m. The Black Box Theatre is located in the Kreft Center for the Arts just east of the Chapel of the Holy Trinity on Concordia’s central campus. Concordia University is located at 4090 Geddes Road in Ann Arbor, MI, just west of US-23 at exit 39.
