ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 28, 2009 – Lester E. Stroh, Jr., founder of Cornerstone Consulting out of St. Louis, Missouri, is being awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 9, during Concordia University Ann Arbor’s (CUAA) 2008-09 commencement ceremony. The Rev. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, Ph.D., stated, “Numerous organizations have been blessed by the remarkable talents and skills of Stroh. His unique insights into difficult management situations and decisions have strengthened the mission, vision and ministry of numerous Christian organizations. Concordia University is privileged to recognize his contributions to the world and the church with this award.”
Stroh has over 35 years of experience as an educator, trainer, executive, manager, consultant and entrepreneur. Stroh’s current work as a process consultant includes working with people at all levels of an organization to help them clarify their mission and vision and gain the skills necessary to make that mission and vision come alive. His work with churches, schools, volunteer organizations, for-profit companies and community leadership programs has focused primarily on group dynamics, strategic and operational planning, board governance and leadership coaching.
Stroh leads people within an organization to define their own path to greater success and significance. His clients develop understanding and skills in dealing with the dynamics of organizational life. Congregations, schools, regional and national church judicatories, businesses and not-for-profit agencies utilize Stroh’s unique planning process.
Les has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development and is a graduate of Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska. He served as a director of Christian education at a King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha, as a member of the national staff of the Board for Youth Services of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and as the assistant to the President of the LCMS. He has taught classes, led workshops and been a speaker at international, national and local events on the topics of leadership development, empowerment, communication skills, group development, board governance and facilitation skills.
In 1991, Les founded CORNERSTONE, which is dedicated to “empowering people in organizations for quality of life, product and service.” CORNERSTONE, which has partners in Orlando, Fla., Rochester, N.Y., and St. Louis, Mo., offers experientially based consulting and training services in human relations and organizational effectiveness.
Stroh is a senior consultant with University Associates Consulting and Training Services. His expertise includes team building, group development, board governance, meeting facilitation, planning systems and skill development in group leadership.
