ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 25, 2010 – Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) is choosing to kick off 2010 with a going-green campaign called RecycleMania, complete with a recycling competition and more environment-friendly products being used in the cafeteria.
Resident Assistant Chair, Rachael Quinlan is one of the most active members in this campaign, as she is the founder of the RecycleMania program on CUAA’s campus. Quinlan says of the event, “For the first time ever, CUAA will be participating in this exciting event to promote recycling on our campus. No other Concordia has participated yet. Ann Arbor is one of the greenest cities in the world - let's keep it that way.” RecycleMania is a 10-week recycling competition among universities across America.

Along with this exciting new event, CUAA’s cafeteria is also offering greener options. Chandi Vigenski, head of Aramark Foods at CUAA, reports, “In addition to the recycling of all paper, plastic, aluminum and glass and composting, we've just changed our cleaning products to green certified chemicals. We are also rolling-out our Reusable To-Go container program.” With this program, students are offered the opportunity to take food “to go” from the cafeteria in reusable plastic containers, which will also be washed by the kitchen staff whenever students return one. On top of all of this, the cafeteria will also become one of the main recycling locations in the RecycleMania competition.
Says Quinlan of CUAA going green, “My hope is that this will help students become conscious of how important the environment is and how their actions have a great impact on it. Ann Arbor serves as a role model for the rest of the country in recycling, and it is wonderful that CUAA can participate.”
