Ann Arbor, MI - Concordia University is pleased to announce that Dr. Carl and Isabelle Brauer, long-time friends and supporters of Concordia, have established the Brauer Distinguished Professor of Education Endowed Chair within Concordias School of Education. The Brauers gift marks Concordias first endowed Chair since the school opened its doors to students in 1963.
"Endowed faculty positions are crucial in our efforts to provide Concordias students an exceptional, Christ-centered education," said Dr. James Koerschen, President of Concordia University. "The Brauers gift, which follows on the heels of the School of Educations recent NCATE accreditation, helps ensure that Concordia can maintain one of the best education programs in the Midwest."
Dr. Brauer, an Ann Arbor native, is a well-respected leader, businessman and philanthropist in the local community. The son of Carl A. Brauer, Sr., former Pastor of Ann Arbors St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dr. Brauer is a lifelong member of the church and has twice served as the congregations president. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and founder of the Brauer Development Company.
Dr. Brauers history with Concordia University spans four decades. He was instrumental in securing the private property on Geddes Road where the campus is located, and over the years has served on the Presidents Committee, the Resource Development Task Force, and supported the universitys ROADMAP 2000 initiative. Dr. and Mrs. Brauer also sponsor a scholarship, were involved in the renovation of the Earhart Manor on Concordias campus, and supported the addition of a Family Life program into Concordias curriculum. In 1996 Concordia awarded Dr. Brauer an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree to honor his years of leadership and community to the Lutheran Church and the Ann Arbor Community.
Concordia University - Ann Arbor is a liberal arts institution of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. With a distinctly Christian environment and an academic community dedicated to excellence, Concordia offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its four schools - School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, Haab School of Business and Management, and School of Adult and Continuing Education. Concordia University is accredited by NCA, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and was among the first colleges to be accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) under the new 2000 standards.
