FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ann Arbor, MI/May 24, 2004 – Concordia University-Ann Arbor hosted the Michigan Youth Leadership (MYLead) 2004 Youth Leadership Conference on May 21-23. Over 130 high school sophomores from across the state converged on Concordia’s campus for the three-day conference.
MYLead is a nonprofit, volunteer run group that strives to motivate and enable the youth of Michigan to continuously make a positive impact on their communities through leadership and service. The primary program offered by MYLead is an annual conference for high school sophomores and is usually hosted on the campus of a Michigan college or university. High schools across Michigan are allowed to nominate one sophomore student to attend the conference based on their outstanding achievements and leadership potential. The MYLead conference generally includes keynote and motivational speakers, panel discussions, debates, teambuilding exercises, and other activities.
Concordia’s own Assistant Professor of History, Julieanna Frost, sat on a panel discussion of International Relations and Homeland Security for the conference. “It was extremely uplifting to have conversations with energetic student leaders from throughout the state,” said Frost. Other panel discussions included “Getting Active in Civics and Politics” and “What is Success?”
A few Concordia staff members were also involved with the conference including Rev. David Adler, Campus Chaplain, who presented a service on “Leadership Lessons from Abraham” to the students on Sunday morning. Sydney Wolf, Director of Admissions, helped greet the students and represented Concordia at the lunchtime college fair on Friday. “It was a great opportunity to make an impression on top students across Michigan,” said Wolf. “We received about 75 interest cards and spoke with several students who plan to apply.”
