Concordia University-Ann Arbor will host a Sacred Music Symposium on Thursday, August 5th, 2004. The symposium, aimed at church and high school music directors, will focus on sacred choral repertoire and the processes of creating exciting and compelling presentations in worship and concert.
The day will be composed of three sessions: choral music reading, how to teach music making skills in the choral rehearsal, and a master class on conducting. Participants in the symposium will be able to take home over 30 choral octavos, improve their overall musicianship in their ensemble, and enjoy fellowship with area music directors
Brian Altevogt, director of choirs, is organizing and conducting the symposium. Altevogt is entering his second year at Concordia this fall where he teaches music education, music history, and voice. He also directs the Concordia Choir and Arborsong and is the head of the voice department. Prior to coming to CUAA, Altevogt taught general music at the elementary level and directed choirs at the middle school and high school levels. In addition, he served as the director of music at churches in Michigan and Ohio. He has earned degrees in music education and choral conducting from the University of Michigan and the University of Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting at the University of Michigan.
The 2004 Sacred Choral Music Symposium will be held on Thursday, August 5th, 2004 on the campus of Concordia University at 4090 Geddes Road in Ann Arbor just west of US-23. Registration and breakfast begins at 9:30a.m. The symposium will end at 3:20p.m. Those interested in attending the symposium must contact Brian Altevogt at 734-995-7483 or altevb@cuaa.edu to register.
