ANN ARBOR, Mich./March 10, 2005 – Dr. Laura Bird, associate professor of theatre at Concordia University-Ann Arbor, recently conducted a class on producing theatre for members of Elderwise, a continuing education program for adults over the age of 50 in southeastern Michigan.
Participants learned about all aspects of producing theatre from auditions to set construction during their visit to campus. The following week they attended Concordia’s performance of “Moon Over Buffalo” directed by Bird. The group reconvened a few days later for a wrap up session.
“Working with the Elderwise program is very rewarding. The members of the group are fascinated by the process of producing theatre,” said Bird. “Its less about me holding a lecture and more like an incredibly energetic discussion about what I love to do.”
This is the second time that Bird has partnered with Elderwise. Last spring the group attended Concordia’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury.” In fact, the participants that attended “Moon Over Buffalo” last month enjoyed it so much that Elderwise is putting together another class for Concordia’s production of “Arms and the Man” in April.
