ANN ARBOR, MI - Concordia Ann Arbor today announces the appointment of Dr. Robert A. McCormick to the position of Dean, School of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. McCormick brings a wealth of administrative and leadership experience to Concordia. He joined the university staff in 2001 as the University Choir Director and leader of Arborsong, an auditioned chamber choral ensemble comprised of members of the Concordia University Choir- the universitys premier touring choir. Presently, Dr. McCormick is completing his current assignment as Assistant Chair, Army Officer Education Program, and Recruiting Operations Officer for the University of Michigan.
Prior to his work at Concordia, Dr. McCormick served over 20 years in the US army, providing leadership and direction in both music and operational capacities. Past accomplishments include serving as US Army Public Relations Leader and Chief of the Internal Information Division in 1992, communicating the critical role of the military services in support of the 52nd Presidential Inauguration. Dr. McCormick was also Director of the US Army School of Music from 1993 to 1996, and Director of the Soldiers Chorus from 1996-2000.
In addition to his work with Concordia, Dr. McCormick is the Director of the Trinity Lutheran Church Chancel Choir in Ann Arbor. Dr. McCormick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Alabama in 1977; a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from George Washington University in 1981; and a Doctor of Musical Arts, Conducting, from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1988. An accomplished musician and conductor, he has conducted performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra, National Symphony, national public television and Arts & Entertainment (A&E) network airings, and other national and international groups. Dr. McCormick has presented and performed at the national MENC (Music Educators National Conference), Chorus America, and regional ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) conferences.
Dr. McCormick currently resides in Ypsilanti, MI with his wife Sandra and daughter Lee Ann. Eldest daughter Lynn attends West Virginia University.
