CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY-ANN ARBOR RECEIVES NCA APPROVAL FOR EDUCATION GRADUATE PROGRAM
ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 17, 2005– The North Central Association of Colleges and Universities (NCA) has approved Concordia University-Ann Arbor’s (CUAA) application to offer a master’s degree in educational leadership.
“The master’s program in Educational Leadership allows Concordia to provide a quality education to those seeking expertise in the area of administration and leadership, curriculum and instruction, as well as religious studies,” stated Dennis Genig, dean of the School of education and associate professor of education.
The program’s objectives are to prepare master teachers and administrators through a program which trains leaders through educational and leadership theory into real world application and practice, so that the program is both rigorous and practical. The common foundational course work to all three concentrations is leadership studies, a focus in all of the School of Education’s programs. This design focuses on preparing educational leaders who have expertise in action research to enable them lead their schools and colleagues through the many forms and phases of school improvement.
This program adds a new dimension to the education programs already offered by CUAA and brings a greater depth to the undergraduate program while adding an emphasis on action research.
“We desire to train educators to lead schools that benefit children and their communities,” said Kevin Brandon, professor of education.
