FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
McCORMICK APPOINTED CHAIR OF THE WORKFORCE READINESS COMMITTEE
ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 30, 2005– Dr. Robert McCormick, D.M.A, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of music at Concordia University –Ann Arbor (CUAA), was recently appointed as Chair of the Workforce Readiness Committee for the Human Resource Association of Greater Detroit (HRAGD).
“Workforce readiness has two components,” stated McCormick. “It assists educational institutions in understanding the needs of employers and prepares students for entry into the workforce, as well as assisting adults who are joining or rejoining the workforce,”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics points out that 60% of all future jobs require training that only 20% of the current workforce possesses.
“Human resource professionals are focusing on recruitment, selection and placement,” said McCormick. “We will find human resources professionals networking with education, business and community organizations to offer support in areas such as job shadowing, mentorship, career fairs, workplace tours, student internships, and pre-employment activities including mock interviews and resume critiques.”
The HRAGD is an association of more than 800 human resources professionals and is dedicated to advancing the profession of human resources through engaging, supporting, and educating its practitioners in the greater Detroit area.
