HERZOG HONORED WITH CHRISTUS PRIMUS AWARD
ANN ARBOR, Mich. April 20, 2007– Concordia University–Ann Arbor (CUAA) announced that the Rev. John A. Herzog, Ph.D. will be awarded the prestigious Christus Primus award on Saturday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. during Concordia’s spring commencement.
Herzog is being recognized for a lifetime of service to the church and exemplifying in word and deed, the university motto, “That in all things Christ might have the preeminence,” (Colossians 1:18). Herzog currently serves as superintendent of the Lutheran High School Association (LHSA) of Southeast Michigan, and as president of the Lutheran Education Foundation of the Lutheran High Schools.
Herzog received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 from Concordia University, Seward, Neb., and a Secondary Teaching Certificate from the State of Illinois. In 1974, he earned a Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill., and shortly thereafter an M.S. in Public Administration from the University of Illinois-Springfield. In 1990, Herzog received a Doctor of Philosophy in Administrative Theory and Research from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., for whom he continues as an adjunct professor in graduate and post-graduate programs.
Herzog has professional experience as a secondary teacher, registered child care worker, and director of Specialized Services for the group home Kemmerer Village, Assumption, Ill. From 1990-96, Concordia University–Ann Arbor engaged him as an adjunct professor in its Adult Degree completion program.
Dr. Herzog continues to write a monthly column for the periodical “Detroit Lutheran,” and serves as a board member for Grace Place Retreats. He and wife Marlene reside in Chesterfield Township, and are the parents of David and Scott.
