Thirteen Concordia University – Ann Arbor students, faculty and staff were commissioned at a daily campus chapel service on May 4th in preparation of their missionary service this summer.
Rev. Charles Schulz, Assistant Professor of Religion, has been requested by the President of the Lutheran Church in Brazil to serve as a missionary for one month this summer. He and his wife will be translating texts for the International Lutheran Council and giving advanced English lessons to the Church’s administrative staff. Rev. Schulz will also be teaching a graduate class in Portuguese at the Lutheran Seminary. The topic will be the source documents of the Formula of Concord.
In June, Nancy Reiter, Office Manager for the Office of Advancement, will lead a fifteen-member team to Krasnoyarsk, Siberia and distribute used eyeglasses through the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia.
In July, student Ann Marie Hetzner and staff member Karen Neuendorf will go to Latvia to teach English as a Second Language, while students Adrienne Beyersdorf, Kimberly Fetz, Dan Kinney, Eve Oaksford, Rachel Roth, Josh Schmidt, and Shelly Steffen head to Alaska to conduct Vacation Bible School classes.
