ANN ARBOR, Mich./March 8, 2005 - Concordia University-Ann Arbor Theatre will finish its 2004-2005 season with "Arms and the Man" by George Bernard Shaw running April 21-24.
Shaw described "Arms and the Man" as a romantic comedy but designed it to explode romantic notions of love and war. Young Raina (Emily Henrickson) is engaged to the soldier Sergius (Ben Schinkel). The very evening that Raina learns that Sergius is the hero of a thrilling cavalry charge against the enemy Serbs, Captain Bluntschli (Kelly Smith), a mercenary working for the Serbs, takes refuge in her bedchamber. Sparks fly as Captain Bluntschli challenges all of Raina's romantic preconceptions about love, honor, duty, and war.
Concordia students Heather MacLaren, Becky Oliver, Joe Wamser, Ryan D. Beffrey, and Gary Pettit round out the cast.
"Arms and the Man" is directed and designed by Laura C. Bird and runs Thursday, April 21, Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are and can be purchased through the Kreft Center Box Office.
