Services & Resources for Grad Students
What resources does Zimmerman Library offer me?
The library has an Online Catalog to search for books, CD’s, DVD’s and journal titles the library owns.
We also subscribe to databases to search for citations to journal articles. Many of these databases also have access to the full-text article. This year the library is subscribing to 60,000 academic
Ebooks from Ebrary. Other useful resources can be found on the library’s website under
About the Library,
Need Help? and
Resource Guides.
Do I need to login to use these resources?
The
Online Catalog is open to the public. The journal databases and
Ebooks must be accessed through the library’s web page. To validate off-campus users, you will have to enter your username and password. This is the same username and password that is needed for Concordia email.
What are the databases?
Zimmerman Library subscribes to online database services to help you search for relevant and scholarly journal articles. Most of these are not available foor free on the Internet, but can be accessed through our library. Searches can be limited in a number of ways such as by subject, author, date, title, source, language, full-text or peer reviewed. A complete list of the databases accessible through Zimmerman Library ‘s website can be found in
Databases A–Z. The library has also categorized the databases in
Databases by Subject.
How can I get a book from Zimmerman Library?
Contact the library through Ask the Librarian. Include title, author, and call number information from the Online Catalog. Also include your mailing address and phone number. We will then mail the book to you. Please be aware that you will be responsible for returning the book to the library by the due date. See My Library Account on the right.
How can I get a book not found at Zimmerman Library?
For off-campus students the most useful way may be to visit your local library. If they do not own the book, this library can place an Interlibrary Loan request for you. They would notify you when you can pick the book up at their library. You may also place an Interlibrary Loan request with Zimmerman Library, but the book would have to be picked up at Zimmerman Library. Go to
Need Help? > Interlibrary Loan for instructions on how to do so.
How can I get an article not found in full-text on the library's databases?
You can place an Interlibrary Loan request with Zimmerman Library. When we receive the article we can scan it and attach it in an email to you. Go to
Need Help? > Interlibrary Loan for instructions or contact the library. You may alternatively choose to place an Interlibrary Loan through your local library.
I would like to print out my paper. Can I do that at the library?
Every semester each student is given an account with a certain amount for printing on-campus. Each time a page is printed the cost is deducted from your account. Library staff can help with setting a pin code for copying.
