Joel Carreiro has been based in the New York City area since the mid-1970s. His work has been shown extensively, including at the Brooklyn Museum, the University of Richmond Museum, the Alternative Museum of New York, and in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Providence, as well as in England, Germany and Ireland. “I have found a way of making paintings from bits and pieces of imagery from masterworks of the Western tradition. Using square tiles in a grid format, I rearrange this imagery; over time teasing out a new image which then becomes my work.” –Joel Carreiro
