Set in rural Indiana during the dust bowl of the 1930s, when both water and faith are in short supply, “The Diviners” is the story of a disenchanted preacher and his friendship with a brain-damaged boy who has a special ability to divine water. The boy’s innocent wisdom meets the preacher’s weary cynicism and leads to discoveries for both. “These are good and simple people,” Leonard has said of his characters. “They have nothing but the best of intentions.” Good intentions are not enough, however, to prevent a tragedy.
__________
Students, faculty and staff come together to enact medieval Christmas traditions and the story of Christ’s birth in this moving spectacle, with musical direction by Brian Altevogt. Beginning in 1978 through the vision of three Concordia professors Paul Foelber, John Sturmfels and Quentin Marino the Boar’s Head Festival has become a treasured memory for many. It remains a vibrant and living tradition as it continues to profess the wonder of the Christmas miracle.
