In contemporary culture, the arts are often viewed as a frill, a distraction from the “real” business of life. At Concordia we think otherwise. At its best, art wakes us up to the world around us. In a memorable phrase that reminds us of art’s ability to combine the most lofty spirituality with the most mundane events of the day, Irish poet William Butler Yeats described the experience of the arts as “heaven blazing into the head.” Here at Concordia University–Ann Arbor, we feel privileged once again to present a series of exceptional artistic presentations to awaken and inspire. As you look through the following pages we believe you will find an exciting array of artists, performers, and presenters lined up for your enjoyment this spring season.
Set along the beautiful Huron River, Concordia University–Ann Arbor serves as a liberal arts university of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, preparing men and women for a life of service in the church and in the world. Our curriculum offers a multitude of degree programs for traditional and adult learners. The programmatic elements of cua2rts, designed to complement our students’ educational experience, seek to expand the artistic spheres of our community recognizing the lure of the familiar and the adventure inherent in new experiences.
Special thanks to Dr. Karl and Mrs. Shirley Kreft for their inspiration and support of the cua2rts program here at Concordia. We salute Print-Tech, Inc. for their extraordinary printing work and the many other individuals and businesses who lend their name to cua2rts through their continued sponsorship this spring season. On behalf of the Concordia faculty, staff, and students who devote their time and talents to this artistic endeavor welcome to the fall 2008 cua2rts season.
