Sine Nomine

Sacred choral music from the Renaissance and 20th Century

Sine Nomine is a professional choir of sixteen voices from the Ann Arbor area conducted by Concordia University Director of Choirs, Brian Altevogt. This concert included music of Renaissance composer William Byrd: Mass for 4 Voices, the motet Haec dies and the full anthem Sing Joyfully.
University of Michigan Associate Professor of Musicology Stefano Mengozzi interjected lute music of the Elizabethan Period between sections of the mass. The music of the second half provided contrast with dimensions of flash, drama, and praise through works of 20th-century composers Gerand Finzi, Egil Hovland, and Robert Beaser. |

Concordia Choir
Sunday, October 11 • 4:00 p.m. • Chapel of the Holy Trinity
The Concordia Choir will be joined by choirs from Lincoln High School, Milan High School, and Lutheran High Westland to present excerpts from important oratorios, including Carissimi’s Jepthe, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, Haydn’s The Creation, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. These works are important placeholders in the history of oratorio, and each demonstrates the dramatic potential when Old Testament stories are told through music by leading composers.
This event is free and open to the public.

Concordia Wind Ensemble
Sunday, October 18 • 4:00 p.m. • Chapel of the Holy Trinity
Concordia University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Matthew Wolf, will present a concert at the Chapel of the Holy Trinity Using the theme, 'Creative Adaptation', the Wind Ensemble will present music based on folk songs from around the world, in addition to two different variations on the tune 'Simple Gifts'.
Music performed will include the works of Vaughan Williams, Ticheli, Stamp, Zdechlik, Fillmore and Sousa. Scott Boerma, Director of the University of Michigan Marching Band, will guest conduct the Wind Ensemble
for his composition, Cauldron.

Ensemble Chaconne - "Measure for Measure: Songs from Shakespeare's Plays"

Tickets: $15 - $10 for students/seniors
Ensemble Chaconne (Peter H. Bloom, Renaissance flute; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, Renaissance lute) and mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal transport the audience to Shakespeare’s time with Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays, hailed by The Portland Press Herald as “the perfect Elizabethan evening.” Now in its 24th season, Ensemble Chaconne has been praised for “vitality and character…style and verve” (MusicWeb International). Mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal has been touted for her “lushly fluid” singing (The Washington Post) and her “gleaming vocal colors” (The Boston Globe).
