CUAA is sad to announce that Rev. Dr. Paul A. Zimmerman, the University’s first campus President, passed away Tuesday at the age of 95 in Traverse City, Mich.
Zimmerman became President in 1961, two years prior to Concordia being founded as a junior college in 1963, and served in that capacity until 1973. As part of the University’s 50th anniversary celebration back in Sept., Zimmerman reflected on the early days and rejoiced at CUAA’s continued ministry in Lutheran higher education. The campus library is also named in his honor: Zimmerman Library.
“President Zimmerman was our founding president here in Ann Arbor,” said Rev. Dr. Patrick T. Ferry, current CUAA President. “We are grateful for the vision, courage, and faith that he demonstrated for the University and throughout his ministry,” Ferry added.
Details regarding funeral arrangements have not yet been released by the Zimmerman family.
