    Ruth (Hessler) Meyer [2000]

    Ruth Meyer has just published her third novel. Upon graduating with a degree in music, becoming an author was the furthest thing from her mind. But a class project for her son inspired her children’s book “Our Faith from A to Z,” published by Concordia Publishing House in 2014. Three years later, her debut novel, “Grace Alone,” a contemporary Christian novel, was released. This spring, the sequel, “Faith Alone” was published, and the third book in the series, “Hope Alone,” was just released in July. Ruth has plans for eight books in the Sola Series. All of her books are available on Amazon. Ruth and her husband, Pastor Jonathan Meyer (class of 2000), have five children and currently reside in rural Texas.

    Dr. Michael Adeyoju graduated with his PhD in Organizational Leadership Administration, from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Michael now runs his own consulting firm, DMA Consulting, in Richmond, TX. Their core mission is helping organizations, employees, and individuals reach their higher side while living a fulfilled and rewarding life. Their products consist of but not limited to, thinking into results coaching program. Corporate coaching, individual coaching, transformational speaking engagements, webinar coaching and leadership skills training.

    Rev. Gary Byers retired from pastoral ministry at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, Illinois in 2014. It was his privilege to serve the Lord Jesus in three congregations and a district staff position for a total of 39 years. Gary and his wife, Kathy, continue to serve as the Lord leads in their local church as well as through short-term missions. They love to travel and periodically host travel groups to international destinations. Through the years, Gary has been thankful for the academic and theological foundation he received at Concordia.

    Jim Wonnacott has worked as a chaplain and manager of spiritual care at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska, for the past 15 years, and volunteers as a member of Nebraska Critical Incident Stress Management. He and his wife, Mary Jo, enjoy bicycling. They have been blessed with six children, 14 grandchildren, and, this past year, their first great-granddaughter.

    Taylor McDaniel graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomarketing—an individualized major, and the first of its kind. Taylor now works for WR Specialists, an orthopedic healing company in Ann Arbor, as their Pharmacy Operations Team Lead. On September 29, 2018, Taylor married her hometown sweetheart, Ethan McDaniel. They were lucky enough to have Pastor Duncan officiate and had 15 other CUAA alumni in attendance.

    Upon graduating from CUAA, Jessica Klieber was accepted into Eastern Michigan University's Graduate Program to study English with a focus in Literature. Her thesis is entitled "Shakespearean Murder Plots: True Crime as Told Through the Posthuman" and was inspired by her final project and her studies through Shakespeare at CUAA. Jessica is looking forward to entering a doctorate program so she can pursue a teaching career at a University. Jessica credits her time at CUAA for setting her up on a path to success and hopes one day she will be walking the halls of CUAA, not only as a former student, but as a Professor of English as well.

    Concordia graduate Christie Lypka left her job as the Executive Director of Samaritan Counseling to realize her dream of writing a novel. Her dream became a reality when she published "Sunshine Through the Rain" in December 2018. The book follows the path of Christie Ann Cook, a cynical, wise-beyond-her-years, truth-telling young girl who is coming of age in the Deep South during the civil rights movement, women’s rights, and Roe v. Wade. Christie desperately tries to make sense of a world that’s gone crazy, realizing in the end each one of us decides our own fate and the right thing and the difficult thing are most often the same thing.

    On October 22, Rev. John Nunes, Ph.D., will be inaugurated as the ninth president of Concordia College, New York. The CUAA alumnus has enjoyed a vibrant career, most recently contributing his voice on the intersection of Christian values in public and professional life as the Jochum Professor and Chair at Valparaiso University. Prior to that, John used his gifts to work to end poverty, injustice, and human suffering worldwide as president and CEO of Lutheran World Relief, a $49 million global organization leading staff in 17 countries.     Along with their 5 children, Jim and Rachel celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in July of 2013. They met at CUAA where Jim was enrolled in the pre-seminary program and Rachel in the elementary education program. They were both very active during their years at CUAA, including participating in the Boar’s Head Festival every December. Their first date was to homecoming in November of 1984. Currently, Jim serves as senior pastor at Faith Lutheran in Plan, Texas. Rachel is a part-time and substitute teacher at Faith as well, and is an organist, piano teacher, and volleyball coach. They are pleased with the merge of CUW and CUAA and are very happy that it will keep the campus alive and operating. The two schools were also merged within their family, as their son Joshua graduated from CUW in 2010, and their daughter Bethany is currently enrolled at CUW in the parish music program.

After teaching children for many years, which she loved, she now teaches seniors how to bless their heirs, avoid unnecessary taxes, and give their very best gift to the Lutheran ministries they hold in their heart—in much greater ways than they ever imagined.

    Cathy received her Master of Divinity degree on May 18, 2014 when she graduated with honors in both Old Testament Studies and Historical Theology from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Cathy's concentration was in Leadership toward Racial Justice, and she hopes to go on to do further work in biblical studies, toward the goal of teaching at the college and seminary levels, and being in accompaniment with migrants and migrant communities in the struggle for just and humane treatment and protection of human rights.

Linda lives in South Carolina with her husband Keith.

    Kurt authored a book called, "Bullying is No Laughing Matter," which features his comic strip character "The Cardinal," that he created for the CUAA Campus Voice newspaper 36 years ago. The book educates kids, teens, and also adults on taking a stand against bullying. Kurt is a staff writer at the Gaylord Herald Times and he and his wife Diane reside in Gaylord Michigan.
