Diagnostic medical sonography is a multi-specialty profession comprised of many diverse areas all using ultrasound as a primary technology. Doctors use ultrasound in women, men, and children to gain advanced insights into the inner workings of the body. In fact, after x-ray exams, ultrasound is the most utilized form of diagnostic imaging available today. Sonography uses the high frequency sound waves to obtain images of the human body. These images are used to diagnose disease and guide physicians during invasive procedures. Concordia University's four-year Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program trains will train you in anatomy, physiology and the art of scanning. Program Overview

Students who graduate with a BS in Diagnostic Medical Sonography have an opportunity to specialize in the following areas of sonography: obstetric and gynecologic, abdominal sonography, breast sonography, and vascular technology.

The didactic portion of the program is conducted at Henry Fory Hospital. This advanced-level program is a 20-month certificate program in a hospital setting, specializing in Abdominal, Obstetrical & Gynecological Sonography.

What to Expect

As a graduate you will be able to analyze technical information and identify sonographic anatomy and pathology. Having the ability to operate high tech ultrasound systems will help provide quality patient care.

Licensure / Certifications
Sonographers are required to pass a national certification board. There are several to choose from depending on specialization. The program prepares the student for certifying boards in Abdomen, OB/Gyn, and Vascular Sonography
