Program Overview

CUAA’s post master’s in K-12 School Administrator Certificate Program (SACP) is designed for individuals who already hold a valid education-related master’s degree and wish to prepare for a role in P-12 building leadership. Graduates can be recommended to the State of Michigan for the K-12 Building Administrator Certificate. In this program you will learn traditional and contemporary theories, research, and practices about human behavior in formal organizations and within the school while exploring various leadership roles as they contribute to the success of the instructional program, particularly through ongoing evaluation and improvement of personnel, facilities, programs, schedules, services and staff development.

The program will help you to identify the skills needed to create and sustain a positive learning environment and examine the changing, multi-faceted role of servant leadership within school. Throughout the program you will also research strategies and innovative programs to improve school operations and enhance student achievement, learn about the role of local, state, and federal stakeholders on the development of school policies, and examine state aid formulas, tax structures, federal aid, and use of tuition, grants and outside funding, practice school budgets.

There is an internship required for this program. The SACP Internship is one of the most important learning experiences you’ll have as you become a proficient educational leader. The course is completed in a school under the supervision of a building administrator and CUAA Internship Coordinator and is designed to provide practical experiences related to Michigan's Standards for the Preparation of School Principals. Practicum hours are completed before, during, and after the school day and reflects all aspects of the principal's role in education.

Once coursework and internship is complete, students can be recommended by Concordia University as candidates for the Michigan School Administrator Certificate. Graduate coursework aligns with the MSEL curriculum and the Michigan Standards for K-12 building principals.
