Uncommon Return: faculty return plan for fall semester

July 21, 2020

Information from Leah Dvorak; Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, for faculty on their return for fall 2020.

Dear CUWAA Faculty,

Attached is Concordia’s “Uncommon return plan for faculty” to help us all plan for fall 2020. There are three parts:

  • General information about how classes, labs, student advising and other important teaching and learning activities will work
  • FAQs and the answers; thanks to Dr. Sarah Holtan for many of these excellent questions
  • Sample syllabus language to include in your class syllabus

This document is not intended to duplicate the information our HR office has provided; instead, it is focused on teaching, learning and working directly with students. We realize that some programs and courses will vary, and encourage you to contact your department chair, program director or dean if you need more specifics about (for example) an experiential learning activity, clinical experience, laboratory, or other specific situation. We also realize that we might not have considered every possible concern, question or permutation. The COVID-19 situation changes frequently; we are all doing our very best to keep up. Our goal is to provide the best possible learning experience for our students, and to do so as safely and as responsibly as we can. They, and their families, will be putting a great deal of trust in us to manage our classes and foster their learning carefully and thoughtfully.

I know we are all invested in our students, devoted to their learning and growth, and that we can count on each faculty member to participate fully in creating a successful fall 2020 at Concordia.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Blessings,
Leah Dvorak, Ph.D.
Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs
