Language Arts encompasses many of the skills we learn as children that help us to communicate and interact with others. From reading and writing to speaking, observing and listening, CUAA’s Language Arts program offers Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education candidates the opportunity to help young learners build the foundation for their future success.

Program Highlights

Elementary Education candidates must complete either a major or a major and a minor in addition to the education coursework. Language Arts is one of four majors and one of seven minors available for study.

As a CUAA Language Arts student you will:

  • Explore how perception, self-concept, nonverbals, listening, and gender all contribute to communication
  • Use storytelling and oral histories to communicate
  • Study how faith develops in young children
  • Develop the knowledge, skills, and disposition to deliver effective instruction to English language learners in the classroom
  • Understand how and why communication breakdowns happen
  • Examine second language acquisition and literacy development
  • Explore ESL national and state standards
  • Study advanced grammar and usage
