Concordia's Special Education Endorsement may be taken alone or combined with a master's in special education learning disabilities.

Concordia’s special education program offers two faith-based pathways for k-12 educators interested in adding on an endorsement in special education to their elementary or secondary teaching certificate. Our learning disabilities program is offered fully online through convenient eight-week courses, so you can continue to work while you learn.

Program Overview
At Concordia, we are dedicated to your intellectual and spiritual wellbeing. Many of the students in our learning disabilities program are current educators wearing many other hats, and our faculty understands this. Our small class sizes allow for personalized attention and support while our eight-week, online courses conveniently break down the curriculum so you can complete your special education endorsement or master's degree at the pace you prefer.
What to Expect
Our online special education program equips graduates with the adaptive tools necessary to create lesson plans for students of all abilities. Choose between our 30-credit special education endorsement-only option or a 36-credit master's in special education. Both pathways include an eight-week directed student teaching experience in order to gain hands-on knowledge. This field experience may be completed in your district if your district meets the requirements.
Our SPED curriculum includes courses on language, literacy, educational research methods, procedural safeguards, and the technology available for students and teachers. You’ll learn about federal and state legislation influencing the education, curriculum, and documentation requirements for students with disabilities. Our goal is to prepare servant leaders ready to gracefully communicate with their fellow teachers, administrators, and families in order to operate as a team for the benefit of each student.
Program Learning Outcomes
In this program, candidates will not only meet the requirements to be a special education teacher in Michigan, but they will also learn how to:
- Create necessary early intervention approaches
- Ensure students with disabilities have the assistance they require
- Adapt curriculum and materials to suit individual student requirements
- Collaborate with parents, other educators, and health care professionals
- Measure student progress
Applicants of this program may be eligible for the MDE Special Education Grant or Uncommon Scholarships. The scholarship application must be filled out and submitted online once per academic year after candidates have applied and been accepted.
Licensure / Certifications
Students must pass the MI Test of Teacher Competence for Special Education (MTTC)

How to Apply
Applications are currently being accepted and reviewed for start dates in spring (January-April) and fall (July-August).
Courses run on an accelerated 8-week schedule. Applicants may either apply to the endorsement program (30 credits), or the endorsement program with master’s degree (36 credits).

- Visit cuaa.edu/apply which will take you to the non-degree application.
- Under contact information, fill out your contact information.
- Under academic ambitions, select, I intend to enroll as a Continuing Education (Graduate Education Only)
- Under anticipated entry term, select: Appropriate Term
- Under Please select a license or course(s), select: Special Ed Learning Disabilities Endorsement
- Under location/delivery format, select: Online
- Fill out the rest of the “futurecardinal” page and hit CONTINUE. From there, you will have the first step of your application done. You can then log in and out of your account to finish the rest. Your admissions counselor will be in contact with you to assist with getting the next steps completed. To completely submit your application, please submit:
- One page essay describing your reason for obtaining a graduate degree
- Résumé of your education and employment experience
- Two letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts
Endorsement with Masters in Science:

Additional Information
- Graduate entrance exams such as the GRE are not required.
- If you have completed graduate level classes in the last seven years and wish to have them evaluated for possible transfer, please contact your admissions counselor for more information on transferring graduate credits.
- International students should contact the Office of International Student Services at international.admissions@cuaa.edu for additional application requirements.
- Evaluation: When an applicant's file is complete, the file is forwarded ot the Admission Committee for review.

I have been a teacher for over forty years and an adjunct professor for twelve years. Teaching continues to bring such joy to my life. Each day, I learn something new and valuable from my students, and hopefully, they have learned something new and valuable, as well.
