Increasing our impact

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) supports faculty and departments in the process of advancing curriculum and teaching excellence through the assessment of student learning. At the course level, we offer syllabus workshops that help faculty understand how the various levels of student learning outcomes are aligned and how this information is developed for students in the syllabus. Individual course syllabi explain how each course links to the university liberal arts outcome.

Individual instructors are encouraged to contact Susan Gallanis, our Instructional Development Specialist, for a teaching consultation on effective assessments for evaluating student learning performance at the course level.

Each academic program at Concordia University participates in our program-level assessment of student learning process.  The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching participates in this process through workshops connected to Academic Program Review and offers consultation to departments seeking to improve their processes. Departments or schools may request a presentation or workshop on any aspect of the 6-stage process Concordia describes as Outcomes-Tools-Results-Conclusions-Changes-Impact. Departments developing new programs can also request assistance in developing an assessment plan.

Each undergraduate major, the core curriculum, and graduate/professional programs contribute learning opportunities which in sum provide data about university-level student learning outcomes.

New CELT Opportunities

Beginning in 2017-2018, The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching will offer support and assistance to schools and departments, as we begin collection of evidence of student learning directly from the learning management system. This information will be used in the process of assessment of learning at the university, as well as by programs and schools.
